September 30th- October 4th

Wow, I can not believe we are already beginning the month of October.  This week we will continue studying Ancient Egypt.
  • Ancient Egyptian Daily Life Project: We have been working on Ancient Egyptian Daily Life project last week in class and we will continue working on this project this week in class.  Tomorrow (Tuesday) ALL research should be complete.  Students will work with their group to complete the product portion of the project Tuesday and Wednesday in class.  ALL projects are due FRIDAY.
  • Tuesday- King Tut Reading - Reading is posted on schoology.  If any student needs a paper copy of the reading they need to get one from Mrs. Flinkow in class. Be prepared for a reading quiz.
  • Thursday- Ramses Reading- Reading is posted on schoology. If any student needs a paper copy of the reading they need to get one from Mrs. Flinkow in class. Be prepared for a reading quiz.
  • Friday- CNN QUIZ, and PROJECTS DUE!
** Next WEDNESDAY (October 9th) will be the ANCIENT EGYPT TEST!  Students need to start studying NOW.  Students can begin studying notes and readings.  A study guide will be given to students Monday.

September 23rd- September 27th

  • The first part of the week will be spent preparing for students' first in-class essay.
  • In-Class Essay will be Wednesday.  All essays MUST be completed in class. 
  • Essay Question: Analyze the process and purpose of mummification and connect mummification to Egyptian beliefs about the afterlife.
  • Reading: Women In Ancient Egypt (Homework Wedsneday Night)
  • Thursday and Friday students will begin a project on the Daily Life of Egyptians.

This week in Social Studies

This week in Social Studies students will be analyzing the construction of the Great Pyramids and connecting pyramid building to ancient Egyptian religious beliefs.  Students will also analyze the process and purpose of mummification.

  • Reading Tuesday: How were the Pyramids built? Ancient Egyptian Afterlife Beliefs (be prepared for a reading quiz)
  • CNN Quiz Friday
  • Don't forget about Homewood History Hunt!
  • Next week students will be writing an in-class essay on The Process and Purpose of Mummification

September 9th- 13th

This week we will begin studying Ancient Egypt.  This is always a very interesting unit for students.  Below you will see a glimpse into our week in Social Studies.

  • Monday and Tuesday- DBQ on the Importance of the Nile River
  • Wednesday- Remembering 9/11
  • Thursday- Geographic challenges of Egypt and an overview of Egyptian culture. Review Writing Prompt from DBQ.  Homework: Pharaohs and Pyramids Reading.
  • Friday- CNN Quiz, Reading Quiz, and The Valley of the Kings (a glimpse into the different pharaohs' burial sites.)
